Lecturing
If you are looking for an exciting guest lecture or practical week Elvira can offer many different solutions. She has been lecturing since the beginning of 2007 and now considers this as one of her strong assets. Elvira currently lectures at the School of Journalism in Utrecht, The Netherlands for three to five months a year. The subjects include: New Media Orientation, Campusblog.nl, Basic English, Freelance Theory, News & Ethics, Journalism in Southern Africa and the New Media Orientation week. Elvira is also at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa.

Networking
Elvira has been in South Africa since 2003 and has an extensive network of journalists and other professionals in Southern Africa. If you need help networking or you can’t find the right people…let Elvira help you! Award-winning photographer Robin Utrecht used Elvira’s knowledge about South Africa, and the Xhosa culture specifically, to make portrait photos during a two-week road trip in 2010.

Translations and Editing
Get your articles or other texts translated from English to Dutch or vice versa and edited at the same time. The prestigious website Hobb is one of Elvira’s clients. Elvira edits CueBlog project (2007, 2008, 2009).

Research
For the Highway Africa and Southern Media Development Fund (Samdef) Elvira does research on the project: “Convergence as a strategic publishing plan: Assistance of media companies in Southern Africa, their understanding, appreciation and application of digital media and the convergence process”. Research is done in five newsrooms in Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique (2008, 2009). Elvira is also a freelance research associate at the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Management and Leadership in Grahamstown, South Africa. Research fields: ICTs, newsroom convergence, new media management and the use of mobile technologies in Southern Africa (2008, 2009, 2010).

Event organising
It all started in 2007 as the co-coordinator of the Digital Citizen Indaba in Grahamstown, South Africa. One year later, in 2008, Elvira successfully coordinated the Indaba herself. In 2009 she coordinated the Indaba again, it has grown to a two-day event with 300 delegates from all over Africa. Elvira will again take on the job as coordinator in 2010. DCI will celebrate its 5th anniversary.
