A short explanation
For groups from 3 to 20 there can be a practical and interactive week to grasp the concept of working in a new media environment or integrated newsroom. A training involves publishing multimedia stories on a weblog to get used to working within a CMS and the ongoing publishing cycle. We can use cell phones with video and audio, video cameras, digital photo cameras and audio equipment to create a news article.
Besides learning about multimedia techniques we will also look at how newsroom convergence works, pre-purposing and re-purposing of material, workflow and routines, online writing and group work. This training is in particular interesting for professional journalists and journalists-to-be who want to keep updated on the latest changes in their work environment.
Wait, there is more…
One of the most popular workshops is in basic journalism skills. Elvira has facilitated this workshop a number of times, including one for Ghetto Radio and Music Mayday in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2008 and one in the tropical rainforest in Suriname (South America) at radio station Mai-Fe in 2009 (see this weblog post).
This training can be adapted to basic online journalism skills and basic television/ radio production skills. We can also focus on sharpening interview or research techniques, learning how to use online search engines, start to micro blog, to manage your social networks and to use your smart phone the smart way.
Elvira can also assist you in finding the right trainer or facilitator within her network. The facilitators for the workshops during the Digital Citizen Indaba 2008 and 2009 where organised by Elvira.
